Coaching and Mentoring Services
This is a very interesting and challenging area. Over my professional career as a producer, sales manager, and sales executive, I have had the honor of coaching or mentoring many CRE professionals. Many have gone on to flourish in the business — their names read like a who’s who.
But what I’ve learned - especially over these past 10 years - is that the ones who need coaching, teaching, and mentoring the most are those just starting out in the business, and those who have been in the business for two or three years.
The truth is that most younger and newer agents are hired by a CRE company to do a specific task — lease or sell industrial properties; lease or sell office properties; lease or sell retail properties, or sell investment properties, etc. Or maybe those agents are hired by a company to represent tenants or represent buyers out in the marketplace.
The question is — what kind of “overall commercial brokerage training, coaching, or mentoring” do they receive? The answer — not much.
These industry rookies learn, usually quite well, how to do the product type and task for which they were hired. They become good at a specific segment, whether that’s retail leasing, office sales and so forth.
But CRE brokerage and all of its nuances are much more than a particular product type and task. The more an agent can learn about all aspects of the business, the better they can carry out their current role and tasks, and the more knowledgeable and creative they become at finding solutions for their clients. It broadens their negotiating and communication skills, sending them well on the journey from novice to expert.
In short — they become more professional.
My various experiences over the years have allowed me to develop a list of training events (which I have personally gone through) to go with a coaching/teaching program. The 10 lesson program follows a progression which, if followed, will genuinely increase the agents’ success rate. I’ve seen it work many times over. And because this program is aimed at our younger, newer agents, I understand that pricing is important and have made rates very reasonable.
